Melodia Women's Choir: ¡ALEGRÍA! FESTIVE SONGS FROM LATIN AMERICA Concert

Melodia Women's Choir, under the direction Cynthia Powell, Artistic Director, will present ¡ALEGRÍA! a concert series of festive songs from Latin America to welcome the holidays on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. The series will feature Conrad Susa’s Carols and Lullabies of the American Southwest, and works by Francisco Nuñez, César Alejandro Carrillo, Bob Chilcott and more. Special guests include Vox Nova Girls Choir of the Kaufman Music Center Special Music School, Emily John, conductor; along with Taisiya Pushkar, piano; Elaine Christy, harp; Samantha Wells, guitar; and Ingrid Gordon, marimba.

About Melodia Women's Choir

Founded by Jenny Clarke, Executive Director, in 2003, Melodia Women's Choir is a fresh voice on the New York choral scene. An ensemble of 32 singers, Melodia explores and performs rarely heard music for women’s voices in many different styles, and nurtures emerging women composers through commissions, residencies and performances. Under the direction of Cynthia Powell, founding conductor and Artistic Director, Melodia has performed at Symphony Space, Merkin Concert Hall, Church of Saint Ignatius Loyola in collaboration with Sacred Music in a Sacred Space, and the Surrogate’s Courthouse as guest artists at Women History Month Celebrations for the NYC Comptroller.
